Hi all,

I am designing a small exhibit for the Mt Rainier Scenic. In one graphic panel I am comparing/contrasting mainline locos to logging engines.

I want to use a pic of #700 since there is a regional tie in.

The pic needs to show the entire engine and tender and be pretty much a broad side, it does not need to be an "art" shot, but should be well exposed and be able to be printed at about 12" wide and 300 dpi.

We can't pay for it but of course there will be a credit line.

If anyone has such a thing please contact me by PM here or at pjpickardATgmail.com

Mods: if you feel this is inappropriate feel free to remove.

Thanks,

Paul

One of the volunteers at MRSR runs the 700 as well. Can't think of his name at the moment but I've talked with him in the past. Real nice guy, I'd bet he'd help you out if he could. Shouldn't be tough to find him through the MRSR directly.

That's Jim Abney, and Brian was going to ask him about photos. He also asked me, since I supply a lot of photos for the MRSR.

The problem is that they're essentially looking for a "builders photo", a broadside shot with engine and tender. I've got some photos of 700, but couldn't locate any flat on side shots that show the entire locomotive. They'd be hard to get, as you need a pretty wide open space. I can't even go to Portland and shoot one in the "roundhouse", since there's no way to get back far enough to get the shot.

Who's the photographer?

Edit - Found it, Brian Ambrose, I'll send him a note.

Glad you found an appropriate photo for the upcoming exhibit.

For future reference, rail pictures.net seems to contain a very extensive collection of high quality rail-related photographs. You could always search their archive for a specific locomotive/location/railroad, find one you like, and contact the individual who took said photo for their permission to reproduce the image (***extremely important as the photos are of professional quality and their creators hold copyrights to their work).

Dang, just a bit too late. I reached Brian A, and he was going to allow us to use his photo. Wish I'd have seen your post earlier.

Its not too late! If he can get me the file like today it should be good. Unless Brian Wise wants his photo in the exhibit :)

Paul, please PM me your e-mail (or post it, but then I worry about spammers). I heard from him, but he doesn't know how to contact you, and I'm slowing things down by being a go between...

Bob, Paul posted his email address in his opening post on this thread. I read this thread last night and about 11 hours ago I emailed to Paul a better broadside picture of Brian Ambrose's than what Paul found in the link he posted above along with what I think is Brian's phone number so that Paul can contact Brian directly for permission to use it. The broadside picture is one that Brian took on 04/21/2001 in Second Coulee near Connell, Washington. Hopefully Paul will be able to delay the publishing deadline until he can get an answer from Brian.

In his opening post Paul wrote "The pic needs to show the entire engine and tender and be pretty much a broad side, it does not need to be an "art" shot, but should be well exposed and be able to be printed at about 12" wide and 300 dpi."

I tried printing the engine and tender-only portion (of Brian's picture that I'm suggesting) at a 12" length and it came out pretty good even at the low resolution used to publish to discussion threads. If Brian can supply his original high-resolution picture it should be a great shot for Paul's display for MRSR.

Jim, I PM'd and e-mailed Paul Brian A's info once I had his current one. Hopefully they connected by now. I was feeling a bit like Henry Kissinger...

Hard to believe that between the two of us, neither could find one in our archives.

Thanks everyone for your help on this....we simply ran out of time and had to go with the SP loco shot. Not a bad shot at all though!

I hope everyone can come see the exhibits when they open in a few short weeks. Yikes I still have a lot to do!
