Sun Link has been approved to commence passenger operations and will open for the public effective July 25, 2014. Service will begin after the grand opening ceremony at 10:00 AM, to be held at 5th Avenue and Congress Street in Tucson, Arizona. Testing of the new streetcars has been completed and minor last minute matters are being tended to. Over the last few days, Sun Link has been providing tours of the line to members of organizations that have been supportive of the program. This morning, members of Old Pueblo Trolley, Inc. were given a tour of the line aboard one of the streetcars. Afterwards, a tour of the Sun Link Operations Facility was provided and a few of us had an opportunity to visit with the staff of the Operations Control Center. We are moving forward with the restoration of our 1924 Brill streetcar and Sun Link and the City of Tucson are very supportive of our efforts and desire to place a vintage streetcar in service on the system. |
