The two ping pongs were the cars that McDonald Steel in McDonald, OH once used at their steel mill. The company founder, David Houck would entertain guests and perspective customers on these cars as the train made its way around the plant. The cars were later sold to the AC&J.

McDonald's locomotive, Alco S2 No. 777 was donated last year to Youngstown Steel Heritage and we are making plans to move it to a new location.

Unfortunately I don't have any further information on the excursion start-up on the Buffalo Southern. I learned about it from someone at the AC&J when inquiring about the fate of the two cars but I haven't seen anything online about when it will become a reality.

The ex Knox and Kane open car is in Dunkirk, NY, privately owned by S. Symans that owns the Viscose 6.

As for the Buffalo Southern start up. The group is a start up, but it is not owned or controlled by the Buffalo Southern Railroad. They are only host to all of the equipment. The group helped to run steam excursions for a town bicentennial on the BSOR. There is hopes to run other trips at some point. Of course, the two coaches need to be moved first...

RYPN's own Dave Collison was the driving force behind saving this car.

Dave came to the Midwest Narrow Gauge Show on Saturday and mentioned that his crew would be moving the car. I had nothing going on Sunday so Nick Hovey and I drove up there to lend a hand.

After the one end of the car was up in the air and one truck was loaded onto a trailer and on its way back to Maryland, we all went out to lunch and then headed over to North East, PA to visit with our friends at the Lake Shore Railway Museum.

ACYX 721 was originally IC 2678? I think, a 1918 betterment car. IC rebuilt it after WWII into a 52 seat coach with AC and large windows, and roller bearings and tightlock couplers. Mr. Byer had it at Noblesville, Ind. and sold it to Wayne York and Glenn Brendel in 1978- dba Palace Car Company. Moved to Fort Wayne, refurbished and renumbered into a sequence that was suitable for NKP 2-8-4 765 excursions. After several years of operations, it was sold to Jim Bacon and his partner whose name now escapes me. 721 was a smooth and quiet car..........

#7099 has arrived at the Walkersville Southern (from their Facebook page). The post says that the coach will become a "regular excursion" car.

Does anyone know why a previous owner blanked so many windows?

It was used as a concession car on the K&K.

The trucks arrived ahead of the car on Monday and I spent Tuesday cleaning off the caked dirt, grime and surface rust since it wasn't going to be any easier after the coach's body is put on top of them. I eliminated the rust with an angle grinder and a circular wire brush, and although I don't think I quite set a personal record for getting filthy, it was indeed a day for the record books. I finished the day by putting primer paint on the sides of the trucks and will follow up with black paint next week. I came home, cleaned up and, being worn out, slept like a log.

It's the best sleep you get, when you've busted your butt to voluntarily, often behind the scenes, to complete a task for a good cause .....At least IMO.

While at Steamtown the car was converted from a coach into a cafe car.

When it was sold to the Knox and Kane they converted half of the snack bar into a gift shop area and blanked over the windows.

Thankfully they are only painted over and should clean up without too much trouble.
