Post subject:  The Cardinal takes flight!

Yesterday was the 60th Anniversary celebration and an overall great day for the Kentucky Railway Museum. In addition to an enjoyable get-together set against the backdrop of our '50's-themed weekend, including several period automobiles, and the serenading of the crowd by "Elvis" himself, we announced our "Crew 152" campaign to return L&N Pacific #152 to service.

Meanwhile, in the barn, our dedicated shop crew finished installing the rebuilt transmission into our M-55 Brill Car, the "Cardinal", and actually fired up the old Cummins diesel and moved it a few feet under it's own power!

Much work remains to be done with the powertrain linkages and airbrake system, but we are proud of our folks in the shop for reaching this milestone! We do have an issue with a crack in one of the wheel hubs and will have to address this before using the car in revenue service, but piece by piece, we are getting this important part of Kentucky rail history back to life!

Congratulations on restoring the F&C M55-1. I rode it from Frankfort to Louisville when it was donated to KRM and movies of that trip are in the DVD "Reflections of the L&N Volume 2".

Thanks,

Jim Herron
