Diesel Shay from 1951--And a Professional Looking Job

This came through on my Facebook page--and what's fascinating about it is that the work was apparently done by a machinery shop with better equipment and more skilled employees than the average backwoods shortline. Date of rebuild is 1951:

A couple of interesting details are all the open doors on the locomotive, suggesting it may have had cooling problems, and a logging flat that is apparently missing its journal box covers.

I wonder if this unit is still around.

welcome to steam locomotive 101....

wonder what kind of clutching arrangement it had or maybe it had some kind of transmission arrangement.

The photo indicates it was kit bashed by Tvee Machinery and a Google search indicates they were on Granville Island in Vancouver and their building is now a theater --- pretty hard to call anything in Vancouver back woods !

I showed some movie footage of this machine at Winterail 2013 and it was well received. Taken by El White around 1956.
