Does anyone know what happened to the Pennsy baggage car which had been at Beacon Park in Boston ?

I drove by this weekend and it was gone.

Destined for Berkshire Scenic Railway, and rumor has it it was bad-ordered and is sitting in Boston Engine Terminal. An identical B-60 showed up at Boston Engine Terminal and hasn't moved since. Cannot confirm if it's the same one, perhaps one of the Berkshire boys can confirm?

Great news that it's going to a good home. I was hoping that it hadn't had a face to face encounter with a cutting torch. Looked like it was in pretty good shape.

There may be problems moving it though with it's current roller bearings on certain railroads.

Here's a photo of the baggage car at the Boston Engine Terminal, taken a few weeks ago with my phone from a passing MBTA Commuter Rail train. Since then, it has been moved further up the siding, and may have picked up some more graffiti along the way. Around the same time that I noticed this car, I also noticed that the pair of RDC bodies (on freight car trucks) that have been sitting on a siding on the opposite side of the main line for the better part of a decade have now been joined by an old boxcar, two-bay hopper, a pair of six-axle flats, and an old 8,000 gallon tank car, all of which appear to be equipped with roller bearings. Any idea what the story is with those?

Reeks of "hospital train" to the nearest scrapyard.

Any of those B&M "milk" boxcars preserved? Ditto for the 2 bay hopper.

Michael -

Let's hope not. The two bay hopper looks great, as does the tank car and the PRR baggage car.

I can't fathom why a pair of heavy duty flats would be scrapped. Nor have I ever seen a tank car that old with roller bearings. I'm not really in the know on swapping out plain bearings for rollers, but something about those trucks under the tank look really weird...

The hopper is ex PRR and very deserving of a "forever" home.

There are two B&M steel milk cars at RMNE and a bunch of other survivors scattered around.

There has been much speculation online as to whether the assembling of this line of rust is a good thing or a preparatory move for scrapping. My MBTA contacts aren't what they used to be, and I haven't been able to find out the actual story.

I cross posted this thread to the railroad.net guys in the MBTA rail forum. If anyone knows they do.

Ted_Roy -

Thanks for the crossreferences. Info on PRR baggage car and an RDC, but not much on the freight cars though.

Your welcome, Les. The guys over there are probably the best resources for anything MBTA related around.

I posted this on Railroad.Net a few weeks ago when they were
moved from the Paint Track in Somerville to their present location:

These are the five cars moved to FX Interlocking, where the RDC's are:

MBTX 51 - an ex-Amtrak/DODX/USAX 6-wheel flatcar (painted yellow)

Ex-Amtrak 15716 six-wheel flatcar (Ex-DODX/USAF 39186) (This car
was never renumbered or repainted to T MW yellow.

Ex-B&M/ACFX 2721 Tank car built circa 1929. (A refugee from old BET)

Ex-B&M Milk car 1930 (another refugee from old BET)

An unidentified 2-Bay hopper either MBTA W308:1 or W309 of possible
PRR origin.

As to the fate of these cars, its unknown, but likely will be scrapped at some
point.
