Taking time from the fun and the mundane of railway preservation to say thanks to one and all who keep RyPN a valuable resource.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. :-) I am thankful Norfolk & Western 611 is back in steam, Milwaukee Road 261 is still in service, and that Soo Line 2719 has a new home thanks to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum. (I am also thankful I finally saw the 2719 again this past August, after last seeing her at Osceola, Wisconsin, in August of 1998.) I am also thankful the Illinois Railway Museum is still going strong, and that a certain Chesapeake & Ohio 2-6-6-2 and Boston & Maine 4-6-2 are either under restoration to service or soon will be. Finally, I am thankful that streetcars still are rolling between Lakes Harriet and Calhoun in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and along the old Minneapolis & St. Louis in Excelsior, MN (the latter is only fitting, giving how the Twin Cities Rapid Transit Company leased and electrified the Tootin' Louie's branch to Tonka Bay, MN, once upon a time).

Hi,

Happy Thanksgiving!

======================
Wikopedia:

In August 1939, Lew Hahn, general manager of the Retail Dry Goods Association, warned Secretary of Commerce Harry Hopkins that the late calendar date of Thanksgiving that year (November 30) could possibly have an adverse effect on retail sales. At the time, it was considered bad form for retailers to display Christmas decorations or have "Christmas" sales before the celebration of Thanksgiving.

In keeping with a custom begun by Lincoln in 1863, U.S. Presidents had declared a general day of thanksgiving to be observed on the last Thursday in November. By late October of that year, President Roosevelt decided to deviate from this custom and declare November 23, the second-to-last Thursday, as Thanksgiving that year.[2]

The competing dates for Thanksgiving are parodied in the 1942 film Holiday Inn. In the film, a November calendar appears on which an animated turkey jumps back and forth between the two weeks, until he gives up and shrugs his shoulders at the audience.

Another year has come and gone, and once again we take pause to give thanks.

Wherever you are (or going to), whatever you're doing, and whatever the courses are on the table, have a happy Thanksgiving!

Folks,
We have a lot of thanks in preservation this year. And thanks to all of you who have answered my many preservation questions in 2017.

Thanks especially to those who preserve historic traction in the USA, a hard working minority!

Happy Thanksgiving again, and thanks to everyone who contributes, and to everyone who looks the other way when I write something silly.
