Three cheers to the CRHS for saving a Triple Crown RoadRailer.

I know that, at one point, the B&O Railroad Museum had on its property a former C&O original RoadRailer. I don't recall seeing it of late; I have no idea if it's still there, hidden somewhere, or gone.

[quote="Ron Goldfeder"]One of the MP trailers at the Museum of Transportation is on the museum's "Front Runner" TTOX piggyback flat. This car is likely the sole surviving example of their four wheel design /quote]
There is at least one other "Front Runner" TTOX car in a museum collection. The Railroad Museum of Oklahoma (Enid OK) has one on display.

Thanks, we're proud of some of our more oddball collection pieces, especially that and the camp car.

Oh, we also have the rail bogey for it too, and are planning on getting a couplermate too.

The C&O Roadrailer is still at the B&O Museum.

We at CRHS have also discussed saving an 89' flat car and putting 2 trailers on it as Conrail was into intermodal in a big way. One of them would have to be a Trailvan, of course and I'd really like the other to be a UPS drop bottom pup trailer (but I doubt ups would go for it)

Another discussion occurred on this topic here in years past. It seems that there are more trailers surviving than those preserved.

Olin -

I checked out that old thread and noticed a mention of a Chicago & Eastern Illinois trailer outside of some restaurant in Connecticut. That was way back in 2009. Wonder if it might still exist? Not much saved from the C&EI and that might be something that could be.

If anyone knows where an old Wabash RR trailer is located, please let me know. The WRHS would be interested in obtaining one for restoration & display.

I had heard of one being used by a construction company in Springfield, Illinois, but when i went to its last known location, it was gone. The construction company is not known.

This has been discussed a few times on this site.

On last season of Chicago Fire, the firemen on the show rescued someone from a very nice ex-PRR trailer, parked in the Canal St./I-55 area of Chicago. And, as I have posted before, there is/was a trailer-leasing company in Connecticut with a large number of ex-EL trailers.

This is an area of preservation where there are still examples out there that can be acquired.

Chris.

A nice Santa Fe "Piggy Back Service" trailer spotted 10 years ago:

Edit: This is not a "preserved" specimen.

There are 3 ex-MP trailers owned by a business here in Seattle; in the last few years blue-gray paint was applied to 1 side of 1 of the trailers, as well as the company's buildings. I'd have to go by the location again to confirm, but I believe the other 2 trailers were not touched. Somewhere I have a picture, including the trailer numbers; I'll see if I can find it and post.

I know of 1 ex-BN trailer on private property in rural Southwest Washington.

There is also a short ex-SP trailer (in faded/rusted Daylight paint) in Reedsport, OR, as seen in the below photos from Brian McCamish's website: http://www.brian894x4.com/AbandonedRRmainpage.html

The photos can be found on the Central Oregon & Pacific page: http://www.brian894x4.com/CentralOregonandPacificRR.html

A correction to my above post: there are 5 ex-MP trailers, not 3. I went by the business today, and as I recalled above, only 1 of the 5 had paint applied. Numbers as follows:

TIRZ #955 (this is the trailer with blue-gray paint applied to one side)
MPZ #253327
MPZ #252499
TIRZ #945
UPZ #576 (ex-MPZ #253231)

My father is a member of the West Michigan Railway Historical Society, the group which owns the Roadrailer at Sparta. He tells me that a local construction company, Owen Ames Kimball, has several of these ex-C&O Roadrailers which they use as field offices at construction sites.
