  • #1275 to IAIS as its #400.
  • GE U boats went to MEC and TTI in Kentucky.
  • Silvis, IL shops now Omnirail or something like that, had a RI SW1500.
  • Rock GP38-2s 4300-4351 went to MP then UP via UP/MP merger. They were MP 2238-2289 then UP 2238-2289 then re#738-789.
  • Rock GP38-2s 4352-4355 were sold to the P&LE as P&LE 2057-2060. Now on the Huron & Eastern.
  • Rock GP38-2s 4368-4379 went to the GTW 5850-5860. To CN same#s.
  • RI SD40-2s 4790-4799 to ICG 6040-6049 then to EMD 6040-6049 in the late '80s. They are on the Wisconsin Southern now.
  • RI U30Cs were scrapped I believe. Most of the GE U-boats were scrapped after being returned to the lessors like UP.
  • RI GP40s 4700-4719 returned to UP. Some scrapped and some are currently on the Missouri & Northern Arkansas RR.
  • Most of the rebuilt GP7s and GP9s went to C&NW.
  • Rock slug 55 to Sandersville RR #90.
  • RI GP18s 1353 and 1357 are on the Florida West Coast RR same#s.
  • Rock GP40Us 3000-3004 went to GO Transit after shutdown later to EMDX.

Unfortunately, none of the survivors listed above are in museums.

Off the top of my head, I can think of three that are in preservation: (GP7 at IRM, E8 #652, and E6 #630).

Are there any others in museums? Isn't there one in Oklahoma?

Any of the survivors worth preserving? I think a preserved Rock Island U-boat would be a nice thing to see.

Any contributions to the list or thoughts are welcome.

Two of the Aerotrain LWT-12's survive; one at Green Bay and one in St. Louis.

Interesting that IRM's GP-7 is consecutively numbered with MNT's GP-7. (post-CRIP rebuild/C&NW)

The two E-units are no longer at Baldwin City, KS.
I believe they are both now in Manley, Iowa.

E8A #652 and E6A #630; now owned by the Manly Junction Railroad Museum of Manly, Iowa.

I believe they are both in Kansas City for repairs/restoration (they have been there for awhile).

Edit: Ira's post showed up while I was typing. Ira, do you have any information they moved since December?

No further information. They could still be at Midwest in Kansas City.
I know they are no longer in Baldwin City.

I thought I recalled they moved to Iowa, but I could be wrong.

While not a museum, ex Rock Island Century 415 #423 is at Hamburg New York owned by the Buffalo Southern Railroad. It's original maroon paint is coming through...

Also another RI 415 is in Kansas, #424 sitting near BNSF Argentine Yard, Morris Kansas I believe. It is painted 421, but is RI 424 as it was renumbered by previous owner PLM Railcar. I would like to know who owns this one and any more details about it. I think it is being badly vandalized as it is sitting now.
