From Trains Magazine - I'll provide the link and a few excerpts... http://trn.trains.com/news/news-wire/20 ... eturn-home "SPENCER, N.C. – The North Carolina Transportation Museum Foundation has reached an agreement to sell Buffalo Creek & Gauley 2-8-0 No. 4, a 1926 Baldwin-built steam locomotive with deep West Virginia roots, to the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad for restoration and operation in the Mountain State. The locomotive will move this spring to the shop in Cass, W.Va., at the Cass Scenic Railroad, now operated by the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley, for the completion of boiler work and other repairs. The Durbin & Greenbrier Valley hopes to complete the restoration in time for the locomotive’s 90th birthday in 2016." |

Is the 4 the "soak" (non-superheated engine) that was nicknamed "old slobber face" in an article about the line not too many years ago? Nice looking engine. |

p51 wrote: Love the shot they used for this, note the little kids as 'firemen': Lee - Great shot of number 4. I believe that she was the only locomotive that the BC&G bought new. Everything else had run elsewhere before coming to the BC&G. Love that round Baldwin number plate under the headlight. Not too many railroads did it that way. Les |

Well, sister #14 happens to be at Gaithersburg, Md., though in rougher shape (presumably, given my memories of her over the decades): http://www.buffalocreekandgauley.com/LO ... oco14.html And if you REALLY want to get interesting, step-sibling A, the Mack railbus, is at Strasburg: http://www.buffalocreekandgauley.com/LO ... lbusA.html |
