Great video! Any chance that NARCOA members might make an excursion to the Glenford Dike someday?

Ernie,

Great video! With your leadership and the current volunteer team things have been becoming more favorable to CMRR. I hope you are able to continue the trend!

Interestingly, the video that loaded after the run to the dyke was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fMbHzGEqjI documenting the beginning of the effort as well as a much younger Earle. Too bad that Steamtown went to Scranton. Hopefully, you will be able to complete something close to the original vision.

Regards,

Art S.

After watching some of the CMRR's Youtube videos, traveling along the line by speeder, I was wondering if it would be possible to offer revenue speeder trips along those portions of the line which are presently inaccessible to full size equipment.

That's a very good idea. Given the environment I see there and west, speeders are ideal. It is a TRULY unique experience and it will be immediately obvious to the haters that this is something special. This is what put the Southern Michigan Railroad on the map!

Nice thing about speeders, as you know, the "bar" is much lower for clearing brush and repairing ties. If revenue passengers are experiencing the line, you could even argue that this counts as opening up miles of route!

Another plus would be that it shows detractors that that portion of the line is still tenable, and helps the CMRR mark its territory, versus if that section of track was completely impassable by anything.

Ernie,

With the acquisition of yet another lightweight coach for the Kingston end of things, what is the plan for the two CNJ cars that were stored with the Lion Gardiner? Will they eventually be trucked up to the north end to join the DL&W cars?

Thanks,
Kevin O

LETTER: More trail walk-arounds should be arranged for Catskill Mountain Railroad

The railroad tracks on the Ulster & Delaware right of way cross Route 28A near the Ashokan Reservoir. FILE PHOTO BY TONY
POSTED: 07/12/15, 10:12 PM EDT

Dear Editor,

Many Kingston and Area businesses and residents are for 12-month, daily train service from the Kingston Plaza to the Glenford Dike at the edge of the Ashokan Reservoir.

As many of you know, Ulster County Executive Mike Hein has proposed a lengthy “walk-around” from Kingston to the Hurley Flats to allow a trail to co-exist with the rail for about 2 miles.

If Hein can propose this walk-around, area businesses and residents can continue to propose additional walk-arounds for the trail access to the Glenford Dike, so as to convince Hein to allow the tracks to remain in place to the Glenford Dike and to allow the huge moneymaker of 12-month, daily train service from the Kingston Plaza to the Glenford Dike at the edge of the Ashokan Reservoir.

The tourists from everywhere will get off the Thruway at our Exit 19 and spend money and enjoy themselves riding from the Kingston Plaza to the Ashokan Reservoir on the train, daily, 12 months per year.

Let’s be reasonable. This is huge.
