This is probably old news but I have no sources or books with any such information and I'm to young to have seen them in Class 1 operation so, are there any As-16s still around?

For the record, there were 127 AS-16's built by Baldwin between 1950 and 1955.

IRM has Columbus & Greenville 606, a AS-416. I do not believe it's operable at this time.

According to the information @ Baldwin Diesel Zone:

75499 5/52 B&O 901 O Minnesota Commercial St. Paul, MN T1 converted to a slug BDZ Slug Roster

So does a slug count? There's either one or none.

AS-416 #1616 from the original Norfolk Southern is on display in the roundhouse at the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer NC.

Interesting. Do you have any photos?

Seems to be a bit of confusion. AS-16's had B-B (4 wheel) trucks. AS-416's had A-1-A (6 wheel) trucks. AS-616's had C-C (6 wheel) trucks. The original question was about the AS-16. Of the 127 AS-16's built, I don't believe any survive.

There are three AS-616s on SMS Railway in New Jersey, but the original question was regarding AS-16s.

How different are the AS-14, AS 416 and AS-616 from each other? Is it just a matter of trucks?

Post subject:  Re: Any remaining Baldwin AS-16s?

It is the trucks and number of traction motors per truck.

Interesting. If the AS-16 is in fact extinct, perhaps a stand-in could be made from an AS-416 or AS-616, just by swapping trucks.

I may beg to differ on that claim trainman. As someone who had lived in Sao Paulo for two years I can tell you that there are at least two more AS-616s in the country. There was another one located in Minas Gerais operating in worn shape at a cement plant. The other unit was located near Sao Paulo at the time but virtually stripped of all useable parts and is now a shell awaiting complete scrapping. Otherwise I will try to see if I have any photos from when I looked around the FEPASA shops but thats all I can tell you.

Thanks Cameron I did not know that, I discovered this stuff a few months back looking up exports and was trying to figure out if any other were around always great to learn about these locomotives.

Interesting no AS16s seem to exist

Atleast one of those is operating, not sure of the plans for the other two. Those would be the ex-Trona units.
