Restoration and maintenance details are continuing on the participating cars for the Three Car - Three Generation celebration to have them all ready for the August 22 event. An opportunity to test operate all three cars occurred this past Saturday evening. Johnstown Traction Company 311 is on the left, San Diego LRV 1019 is on the right and Philadelphia PCC car 2743 is on the right.

Johnstown Traction Company 311, built in 1922, was the first car the museum acquired in 1960 and it is nearing the end of a extensive restoration. The restoration was completed in the museums shop.

Philadelphia PCC car 2743, built in 1947, was acquired from SEPTA in 1994 and and has been restored to its late 1950's era PTC paint colors. This was accomplished at Star Trak in Boonton, NJ using funds raised by the museum and major sponsorship from the Friends of the Philadelphia Trolleys..

San Diego LRV 1019, built in 1982, was acquired in 2014 and made its first test trips just a few weeks ago with trolley poles. These were added to be compatible for the museum's overhead.

We look forward to seeing everyone in Rockhill Furnace for this historic event.

Wow! What a lineup--three generations of electric railway cars in one photo. Never thought I'd see a San Diego U-2 with trolley poles. I think its mate (1018) at the Rio Vista Jct. Western Ry. Museum can run with its pan because they are set up for Key System cars. Just for a bit of history, 1018 and 1019 are from the second batch of Siemens-Duewag cars delivered to San Diego. They opened in July 1981 with 1001 to 1014.

You know you're getting old when: Cars and locomotives that you saw when they were new turn up at railway museums. Here's a photo from 26 July 1981:
