More Sunken Locomotives?

I noticed this photo, which shows a sunken steam locomotive tender, on a site that popped up on my Yahoo "news" feed this morning. There was absolutely no information regarding the location. I searched for matches for the image using tineye.com and got a couple of hits for Viet Namese sites, but they offer no more information than the original site.

Any clues where this might be?

LMS design Class 8F 2-8-0 which became one of the UK War Department standard loco types and was most probably en route somewhere in the Middle East at the time - most likely Iran.

Thanks for the info and links. It's amazing how well-preserved some of the vehicles are after so long.

LOL. I'm sure someone, at some time has taken at least one rock out of the Red Sea, so I'd say yes.

Looks like its mounted on a ship for delivery, would the engine be on it as well?

There are lots of photos of the wreck at the google link in a post above. Here's a good diagram highlighting some of the things in and around the wreck, including 2 locomotives:

The locomotives apparently fell clear of the ship when it sunk as they're both well away from the hull.

In the Abacos, located in the Bahamas there is a group of sunken locomotives, I will see if I can find some shots and post them.

Those two shots are from the Bonne Terre Lead Mine in Missouri.

Those two shots don't look like a real locomotive. Look at the size of the flanges.

I never thought this particular one was a real locomotive. However, I've never seen a full encompassed shot of it as a whole to know what it actually looks like. The only thing available on the net are these murky close up shots of certain parts like seen above.

From what I have seen it almost looks like something someone built using an Allan Herschell "Iron Horse" park train as inspiration. How something like that ended up in the bottom of a flooded mine is a mystery to me.

The mine wasn't flooded when the locomotives were operating
down there, and they weren't removed before the flood.
