Is there any information available on the locomotives built by the Tanner & Delaney Engine Works of Richmond, VA? In 1887 this firm became the Richmond Locomotive & Machine Works. Late in 1888 the patent for the Cole pole road locomotive was sold and the Pole Locomotive Co. was formed to build these locomotives.

Dear John:
A little can be found in an rypn thread: "Pole Locomotive at Swan Quarter, N.C."
Whether or not this locomotive still exists is anyone's guess.
I learned of it from Robert Johnson ("Whistles in the Woods") and included it in my book: "The Steam Locomotive Directory of North America" because I trusted Bob.
Several people have tried to find it over the years without success.
Perhaps it is still out there waiting to be rescued!
