I had a career in maritime preservation; it is a whole lot harder to preserve anything that might sink if you turn your back on her. At least steam locomotives do not sink at the drop of a hat!

i worked on the New York City later US Army ferry boat Maj Gen Hart at South Street many years ago. She is gone or almost.

The paddle ferry Eureka at San Francisco and the screw ferry Berkeley are well worth seeing at their respective maritime museums.

One bit of good news on the sail side is that the four-mast bark Peking arrived in Hamburg on August 2, 2017. I worked on her also, and wish her luck in her once and future home port.
