At Topfuel's suggestion that I move the posts of scanned slides out of the "Slide Scanner Recommendations" thread into a new thread to make them easier to find, here's another scan:

This is a Blackhawk Films duplicate (film brand unknown) from the Fred Byerly Collection, taken at King Street Station in Seattle in June 1966, of GN NW2 #114.

The #114 was 1 of 12 NW2's built in Order #E260 between June and August 1939. Originally numbered as #5312-#5323, these dozen switchers were renumbered in 1943 to #112-#123, at the same time as the first 10 NW2's built in Order #E219 between February and May 1939 (#5302-#5311) and the later 11 NW2's built in Orders #E400 (July and August 1941, #5324-#5331) and #E477 (August and September 1942, #5334-#5336). After this renumbering, GN placed 2 additional Orders for NW2's: 6 in Order #E604 (August and September 1945, #145-#150) and 12 in Order #E1098 (July, September, and November 1949, #151-#162).

The #114 was renumbered as BN #461, retired in March 1980, and sold for scrap to Simon & Sons in September 1980.

Another slide:

My apologies that this slide is a little blurry. It is an original Kodachrome taken by an unknown photographer at an unknown location at an unknown date (the processing date on the mount is November 1958). The car on the right is GN #1072 (2nd) George F. Baker.

It was built in 1929 by Pullman in Lot #6249 to Plan #3990 as a barber shop-7 seat lounge-8 seat dinette (2 4-seat tables)-buffet (kitchen)-writing desk-14 seat lounge-8 seat solarium observation, 1 of 8 such cars built in that Lot for the brand new Empire Builder, which launched on June 11th, replacing the Oriental Limited. In February 1941, 7 of these cars were sold to GN as #1070 to #1076 (3rd); the 8th car, the Norman W. Kittson, was sold in July 1945 to the Southern, which rebuilt it as business car #4 (now on the Austin & Texas Central as the Boonesborough; "Surviving Pullman" thread line item #110). After the first streamlined Empire Builder trainsets were delivered in 1947, these 7 cars were reassigned to secondary trains, including the then-2nd-run Oriental Limited. With the delivery of the Mid-Century Empire Builder, the 1947 cars were reassigned to the new Western Star, which replaced the Oriental Limited, and displaced the 1929 cars. However, on occasion, the 1929 cars would be pulled from other assignments and added to the Western Star, as seen here, while the newer lightweight cars were being shopped. 2 cars were rebuilt in 1952 to streamlined baggage cars #306 and #307; #1073 (3rd) was rebuilt in 1954 to streamlined buffet lounge-parlor-blunt end observation #1085 (2nd); 2 cars were rebuilt in 1959 to streamlined baggage cars #318 and #319; and the last 2 cars were rebuilt in 1963 to streamlined baggage cars #320 and #321, the #1072 (2nd) as #320 (2nd). 3 of the 6 rebuilt baggage cars were later transferred to the BN MofW department, including the #320 (2nd) as #976003.

The first of three original Kodachromes of C&NW executive fleet cars, taken in Council Bluffs on May 3rd, 1983, by Jerry Bosanek:

First up is business car #404 (3rd). Built in 1925 by Pullman in Lot #4923 to Plan #3521A as 10S sleeper-lounge observation Monte Viso, 1 of 15 such cars built in that Lot. 4 of these cars, including the Monte Viso, were built for the Capitol Limited; the other 11 cars were built for the general service pool. In January and February 1926, these 4 brand new cars received Capitol-series names; the Monte Viso was renamed Capitol Road. The Capitol Road was sold to the C&NW on 12/7/1948, which rebuilt it to a business car as #400 (2nd), with 2 double-occupancy staterooms and a secretary's room. The rebuild was likely finished in 1949, and the #400 (2nd) was assigned to the company president. In 1981, the #400 (2nd) was renumbered to #401 (3rd), and was renumbered again in 1982 to #404 (3rd). In either 1985 or 1986, the name Wyoming was applied to the car, and several years later, the kitchen end was damaged by a fire, which was caused by a fuel leak. This fire occurred at Norfolk, Nebraska, and the Wyoming was returned to Chicago via a freight train. C&NW assessed the damage and the decision was made not to make repairs. As a result, the Wyoming was sold in 1991 to Ralph Justen, who renamed the car Wisconsin, and it was used for specials and charters on the Great Lakes Western. Ralph later sold the car to a private owner, who renamed it Carolyn. In 2014, the Valley Railroad acquired the Carolyn as VRRX #400, and in mid-April 2015, it was moved to Essex, CT, via Willard, OH, and Cumberland, MD.

Next is 10RM-6DB sleeper #410 (1st). Built in 1949 by Budd in Lot #9662-033 to Plan #9503 as PRR #8452 Sturgeon Rapids, to PC #4335 Toronto Harbour, sold in 1973 to Amtrak #2799, retired in 1977 and sold to Tuman Demolition, later (when??) acquired by C&NW as #410 (1st), damaged by fire in January 1985 and subsequently scrapped. Replaced by the #410 (2nd) Lake Michigan, which was built in 1950 by P-S as NKP 10RM-6DB sleeper #211 City of Lima, sold in 1965 to IC as #3532 Cynthia, later C&NW #410 (2nd), now owned by the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society as the #211 City of Lima.

Last is business car #400 (3rd). Built in 1928 by Pullman as B&A #99 (Lot and Plan unknown). The #99 was renumbered in 1939 to NYC #6 (2nd), and it was modernized in 1948 as P&LE #99 (2nd). In July 1962 it was sold to D.E. Taylor as Gold Coast Railroad #99, and it was later (when??) resold to D. Kramlich. At some point (when??) the name Sea Level was applied, although by which party I'm not sure. In 1981, C&NW acquired the car from the Texas Tank Company, as the #404 (2nd), and it was renumbered in 1982 to #400 (3rd). This car is now owned by the Adirondack Railway Preservation Society as ADIX #99 Nehasane.

Another slide:

Slide is of an unknown brand, I also don't know if it's an original or a duplicate. Taken by an unknown photographer at an unknown date in Roseburg, OR, on the Oregon, Pacific & Eastern, of Pullman 12S-1DR sleeper Woodland (Lot #6360, Plan #3410B, 1930, Portland Limited). 1 of 9 such cars built in that Lot, 6 for the Portland Limited and 3 for the Capitol Limited; the Woodland was the only Portland Limited car not acquired by UP at the Pullman divestiture. Sold to Jack Ferris' Private RR Cars, Inc. (1965), resold to OP&E (when??), painted by the OP&E in IC colors as seen here for display, acquired by Galveston RR Museum (when??), later resold to Iowa Pacific (201?). "Surviving Pullman" thread line item #71. Does anybody know the SLRG number for this car? Thanks in advance!

Another slide:

This is an original Kodachrome acquired from Gregory J. Sommers, photographer unknown, of BN NW5 #987, still in GN Green & Orange paint, in Interbay (Balmer) Yard in Seattle in September 1973. The #987 was built in December 1946 as GN #187. The #987 was retired in April 1982 and sold in July 1982 to Pacific Transportation Services as #1001, then (when??) resold to Pete Replinger/REPCO as #187 and stored on the Mount Rainier Scenic in Mineral, WA, then acquired in the early 1990's by Dick Samuels/Oregon Pacific RR, and in more recent times the #187 was stored on OPR's ex-Portland Traction Company line at the former Gold Junction, which is located along the southern border of the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland. After being damaged by vandals/metal thieves numerous times starting in circa 2008, and an attempt had been made to sell it to an interested party, the #187 was sold for scrap in 2014.

This is an original Kodachrome acquired from Todd Novak, taken by Wesley L. "Wes" Hammond in Seattle, on July 8th, 1970, of BN SDP40 #9854, still in GN Big Sky Blue. It was built in May 1966 as GN #324, was renumbered in July 1974 to #6398, to BNSF #6326 (rebuilt at an unknown date to a SD40u??), later (when??) stored dead, actual retirement date unknown.

Behind the #9854 is passenger-equipped F7B #9747, also still in BSB. It was built in January 1953 as freight-geared #464B, and was converted in 1969 to passenger-equipped #384B. It was sold in August 1972 to Amtrak as #151 (1st), was renumbered in May 1974 to #399, and was retired in May 1975, no further disposition info.

Awhile back I acquired 186 slides from the collection of Paul Frantz (I believe), including 62 slides of various UP subjects, 50 of which I've finally gotten around to uploading, and will now post here. Again, if anyone can ID locations, this would be very helpful! Thanks in advance! Here are the first 4:

Photo #1: In September 1973, UP U50C #5039 and Rock Island U28B's #272 and #262 lead the ARRO westbound in the morning hours, somewhere on the Overland Route in eastern Nebraska. Taken by an unknown photographer, film brand is unknown.

Image

Photo #2: UP depot in Riverside, CA, taken at an unknown date by Dave Riggle. Film brand is unknown.

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4521254

Image

Photo #3: Retired 4-6-6-4 Challenger #3965. There was no location or date written on the mount, but Don Strack's website lists that the #3965 was vacated from the roster in July 1960. Was this taken in Council Bluffs? Photographer is unknown, film brand is unknown.

Photo #4: UP Overland Route herald. Photographer, location, date, and film brand are unknown.

Next 4:

Photo #5: A pair of UPZ trailers (the closest is #25217 and the second is either #25215 or #25219) on TTX flat #472291. Note that there is a third UPZ trailer at the far right, so more than likely there's also a fourth trailer out of frame. Also note the boxcars which have been modified for MofW service in the background. Photographer, location, date, and film brand are unknown.

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4521257

Image

Photo #6: F9's #507 and #507B are crossing the Payette River near Banks, ID, running south towards the Treasure Valley. This line later became the Idaho, Northern & Pacific RR, which recently suspended its Thunder Mountain excursion train. These F9's were built using the bodies of traded-in F3's.

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4521258

Image

Photo #7: UP #CP-902 Copper King, taken (presumably) in Denver in 1947. The Copper King was the buffet lounge observation from the 4th Streamliner Train, which beginning in October 1947 operated as the City of Denver, while the regular COD trainsets were renovated on a rotating shop schedule between October 1947 and February 1948. The 4th Train was previously in operation as the City of Portland, before that as the City of Los Angeles (still #M-10004 at that time), and originally as the City of San Francisco. When built in May 1936, this car was the RPO-baggage-auxiliary power car for the 4th train, #12202, with a 30' mail apartment (P-S, Lot #6433, Plan #74-B-31), and it was rebuilt in August 1938 to Plan #7341C as the #LA-902 Copper King, with 41 lounge seats (2 berth sections included in that total), a writing desk, buffet, and barber shop.

http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4521259

Image

Photo #8: SD40-2 #3079, SD24 #426, and 2 GP30B's are westbound (compass southbound) on the LA&SL in Rainbow Canyon at Boyd, NV (middle of Boyd siding), on Independence Day, 1975. This slide is apparently from the Tom Gildersleeve Collection, and it is also marked "J. Lytle", so I don't know if it was taken by Gildersleeve or Lytle. Does anybody know who "J. Lytle" is/was? Thanks in advance! The film brand is unknown.

Note that the profile of the Copper King is not unlike the Viewliner cars. I still much prefer the traditional AAR profile of the post-war streamliners, but it is an interesting comparison.
