Post subject:  Wilmington & Western RR 50th Birthday + B&O 8408 Dedication

Friends,

On May 28-30th the W&W will mark the 50th anniversary of our first passenger train that ran on Memorial Day weekend in 1966. It is a very special weekend for many of us who work very hard to keep our railroad alive and well. We have a lot to be proud of: buying the line in 1982, rebuilding our 4-4-0 No. 98, rebuilding the line after devastating floods, building a great infrastructure to keep the trains running, and most recently the completion of an extensive restoration of our 1940 SW-1 No. 8408.

On Saturday May 28th we will dedicate B&O SW-1 No. 8408. JC McHugh of McHugh Locomotive and Crane will be in town to help with the formal dedication. He was very accommodating in working with us on this multi-year restoration and donated a number of items and labor to bring this project to completion. No. 8408 may very well be the most completely restored diesel in American preservation.

On Sunday May 29th we will be operating Nos. 98 and 8408 for our member day and volunteer reunion. If you are someone who has helped us in the past please consider coming out for the reunion. There will be a lot of familiar faces and old friends in town for this event.

On Monday May 20th we will be running out PRR doodlebug No. 4662. She is the hardest working doodlebug in preservation and a true classic.

If you are able to stop in for a visit we would love to have you help us celebrate.

Hope to see you on the rails and work safe!
