Elgin Joliet & Eastern caboose 549 was donated to Whiting, Indiana and is shown here in 2008 sitting near 119th Street in that city:

The paint scheme chosen for display was the one that these 50 (numbers 500-549) 1956-built cabooses originally wore, with white lettering instead of the later green. Also displayed there with 549 was Indiana Harbor Belt transfer caboose #10, which was originally a New York Central caboose. Recently I went through Whiting at where I thought the two cabooses were displayed, but couldn't find them. Does anyone know where these two might have been moved to?

After being stored at the BP Whiting Refinery for many years, EJ&E caboose #549 was sold to the Mineral Range Railroad in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan last year.
