Last week at the Illinois Railway Museum we loaded our 44,000 lb. tamper, which is on loan,to the Minnesota Transportation Museum, onto a lowboy semi. It's low frame would not clear the lowboy's ramps necessitating the use of our 40 ton Ohio locomotive crane along with a rental truck crane. Our CNW 6363 wrecker has it's water pump out for a rebuild , hence the rental.
The same day a wood refer arrived by lowboy from Bad River & Nickel Plate RR Museum. I was told it is FGEX 55407 weighing about 42,000 lbs.

You probably mean "Mad River & Nickel Plate RR Museum", who will be celebrating their 40th anniversary this weekend. When was that car acquired? I asked them last year about any equipment they were deeming surplus and they said they didn't have any.

Hi Emmo213,
You're right, I laughed when I reread the name of the museum. I don't know when the deal went down on the car. It was a surprise to me. Maybe Nick K. or our Freight Car Dept. can shed some light on it's acquisition .

Hey Kevin,
I'll post a few good shots of the Ohio as soon as my wife gets home to help me with down sizing the files.

John T : Thanks for the information ! 1976 was a bit too early for me taking photos of the new OHIO cranes; I didn't start until about 1982.
They still have a crane car body there with arch bar trucks. AS John T already knows what's left of almost all former rail crane companies are now owned by AMERICAN/OHIO here in Bucyrus (Bu cy rus). And yes; Bucyrus Erie began here and stayed for about 11 years. So the two great shovel builder's (Bucyrus and Marion) were once only some 25 miles apart.
