For what it is worth,

John Birmingham / Boulder Scientific owned the following New Haven Cars that were at Dabo in Orrville Ohio;

Bunker Hill (ex NH 476)

Coaches; ex NH 8619, 8664, 8676 and 8646

8664 and one other whose number I can't find (it was PC 2524) were sold to Gulfstream Development in 2005 and moved to the above mentioned restaurant.

All of these cars were hopeless, desintagrating rustbuckets. The Bunker Hill was in the best structural shape as its lack of an interior helped it to dry out somewhat. There were plans to move it to Colorado in 2005/2006 but obviously they never came to fruition.

BSC also owned ex NH coaches 8694, PC 2505 (can't find the NH #), NH 8697 and 8648 that were the dinner train on the Queen Anne's Railroad in Lewes Delaware. I am not sure what became of these cars.

The coaches at Salted Rim in Delaware must be 2524 and 2526. This is based on the note just above and a photo of the other car showing number 2526 before the car was painted black.

There is a photo by William Grimes of three junker stainless cars at the Delaware Coast Line shops so I assume those are the Queen Anne's cars. A google earth view of the DCL shop in Georgtown, DE shows no cars in storage.

not to create confusion to the 4 Delaware cars:

this post says one went to Indiana
Two to a restaurant, one to scrap, one shipped off line

I think there are only three cars referred to on the thread from railroad.net

Quote:
I contacted an individual at who is familiar with the rail scene in Delaware. He managed to get in touch with some one at the Delaware Coast Line Railroad. He was told that two coaches went to a historical restoration group in Indiana. Another car was cut up on site and the ALCO locomotive was being dismantled for parts, since the engine block had frozen.

A slight correction/addition on the 20 County-Series cars I posted about earlier: Randall lists that all of these cars were delivered in October 1948, whereas Madden lists that these cars were delivered between June and October 1948.

Here's the next set of dispositions:

25 Cars, Parlors, Town-Series:

General Info:

These cars were built to Plans #W46611 and #4500. Like all the other cars built in Lot #W6788, these cars were ordered in December 1945. Randall lists that all of these cars were delivered in August 1948, whereas Madden lists that these cars were delivered between July and August 1948.

Unlike what was common with most heavyweight and lightweight parlors, these cars did not have a drawing room.

When built, #300-#311 had 36 seats, and #312-#324 had 52 seats, but in 1949, the seating in those 13 cars was reduced to 36.

In 1964, 10 cars were reconfigured to 72 seat coaches and renumbered to the #720x-series (with the names removed), and were placed by PC in the #319x-series. 9 of these 10 cars were sold to Amtrak in 1971 and were placed in the #725x-series. 2 of these cars were later reconfigured to 56 coach seats and 12 lounge seats, and were placed in the #385x-series.

The 15 cars which remained as parlors were placed by PC in the #71xx-series. 3 of these cars were sold to Amtrak in 1974, were reconfigured to 76 seat coaches, and were placed in the #760x-series (with the names removed).

Dispositions:

#300 Pittsfield to coach #7200, to PC #3190, wrecked in 1971, the exact date and location are unknown. I'm assuming that if this car had not been wrecked, that it would've been sold to Amtrak as #7250. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance!

#301 Bridgeport to PC #7100, to Amtrak coach #7600, retired in 1975 and sold for scrap to the D.J. Joseph Co.

#302 Mansfield to PC #7101, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

#303 Brocton to PC #7102, retired in 1971 and sold to an unknown party in Fort Monmouth, NJ, current status unknown.

#304 Hartford to PC #7103, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

#305 Rowayton renamed in 1949 to Woonsocket, to PC #7104, retired in 1971 and sold to the party in Fort Monmouth, current status unknown.

#306 Cranston to PC #7105, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

#307 Worcester to PC #7106, to Amtrak coach #7601, retired in 1975 and sold for scrap to the D.J. Joseph Co.

#308 Stamford to coach #7201, to PC #3191, to Amtrak #7251, retired in 1976 and sold to John Greco (Tampa, FL), current status unknown.

#309 Stonington to coach #7202, to PC #3192, to Amtrak #7252, retired in 1977 and sold to Frank Vacek's Boquet* [sic] Movie Ranch (Santa Clarita, CA), resold (likely shortly thereafter, without actually being moved to the Ranch) to the "Highland Station" shopping center/storefront (located next to the now-gone Redlands Branch at 1672 Palm Avenue, San Bernardino, CA), current status unknown. The #7252 was resold by Vacek to the Highland Station along with 2 other ex-Amtrak cars: #6801 (ex-BN #6801, exx-GN #1300, exxx-#1190 Mississippi River, nee-Choteau Coulee) and #7002 (ex-RF&P #842). Using Google Earth satellite imagery, the cars that were at Highland Station are now gone from that location, and available historical aerial imagery within Google Earth dating back to circa May 1994 does not show the cars either. Can anyone confirm that the #7252, or either of the other 2 cars formerly at Highland Station, are still extant? Thanks in advance! Info on these 3 cars comes from 2 posts on Trainorders by Phil Dohmen in March 2014: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3347723 and http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,3349149 Vacek's Movie Ranch was built on the adjoining Sable Ranch and Rancho Maria properties, and it is still used today for productions; their website is here: http://ranchomariasableranch.com/ There are still at least 6 of the passenger cars on the property, but so far I've only been able to locate 1 photo (on the website of the Santa Clarita Film Office) showing 3 of these cars, with no ID's as of yet: http://filmlib.santa-clarita.com/FileCenter/Permit/F6ADB9FF-C3C7-411E-863A-D046738E9DFF.jpg Does anybody have a list (or photos) of which cars are still there, or what happened to the others? Thanks in advance!

*Randall spells the name as "Boquet", however, it could have been "Bouquet".

#310 Torrington to coach #7203, to PC #3193, to Amtrak #7253, retired in 1976 and sold to John Greco, current status unknown.

#311 Providence to coach #7204, to PC #3194, to Amtrak #7254, retired in 1976 and sold (for scrap?) to Rail Service Industries (Mira Loma, CA).

#312 Attleboro to coach #7205, to PC #3195, to Amtrak #7255, retired in 1976 and sold to the Urban Renewal Corporation (Wichita, KS), later (when??) resold to the Heber Valley RR (Heber Valley, UT), resold circa 2011-2012 to campsite.

#313 Pawtucket to PC #7107, retired in 1971 and sold to the party in Fort Monmouth, current status unknown.

#314 Guilford to PC #7108, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

#315 Westerly to coach #7206, to PC #3196, to Amtrak #7256, reconfigured in 1973 to coach-lounge #3850, retired in 1976 and sold to T.G. Jones (Peninsula, OH), car later (when??) moved to Barberton, OH, resold in circa 1988 to Larry Marshall-Capitol Passenger Car and named C&B Marshall, restored in 1995 to a parlor, leased to/used by the Orrville RR Heritage Society (Orrville, OH), later (when??) sold to Orrville.

#316 Mystic to PC #7109, to Amtrak coach #7602, retired in 1975 and sold for scrap to the D.J. Joseph Co.

#317 Danbury to coach #7207, to PC #3197, to Amtrak #7257, reconfigured in 1974 to coach-lounge #3851, retired in 1976 and sold to the Pittsburgh & Shawmut RR (Kittanning, PA), current status unknown.

#318 Groton to PC #7110, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

#319 Holyoke to PC #7111, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

#320 Meriden to PC #7112, retired in 1971 and sold to the party in Fort Monmouth, current status unknown.

#321 Milford to PC #7113, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

#322 Newport to coach #7208, to PC #3198, to Amtrak #7258, retired in 1977 and transferred to the MofW department as camp car #16756, current status unknown.

#323 Taunton to coach #7209, to PC #3199, to Amtrak #7259, retired in 1977 and sold to Frank Vacek's Boquet [sic] Movie Ranch, current status unknown. I don't know if this is 1 of the at least 6 cars which are still on the property. Does anybody have a list (or photos) of which cars are still there, or what happened to the others? Thanks in advance!

#324 Lyme to PC #7114, retired in 1971 and scrapped.

Slight OT; is it known if any of these coaches were on the Federal Express Wreck in Washington? Or even if there is a list of the coaches involved in the wreck?

Thanks,

Bob

ex-NH coach #312 "Attleborro" is no longer at the Heber Valley RR in Northern Utah. In 2011 or 2012 it was relocated to a campsite in the area that also has a couple of cabooses, I can't remember the exact location now. It has been remodeled into a camp cabin of sorts. It never saw use on the Heber Valley RR anyway.

Is this the car and cabooses that you were referring too?

It's interesting what pops up and when.

Thanks for all the help with this. If anyone gets to the Salted Rim restaurant the number plates on the side of the cars might reveal a number on them if looked at closely even though painted over. It might take running your hand over it to feel this.

And what does Dabo, Inc in Orrville involve/mean? Is there a more complete name for it?

I drove by Salted Rim today. One car retains the 2526 number plate on the side. I cannot easily see the number for the other car as it is up against the building. I will visit again soon.

There were three 8600 cars at the front of the train when it dove into the concourse of DC Union Station on January 15, 1953. These were #8663, followed by #8643 and #8665. The first two wound up entirely in the station, were total losses after being dragged out and were scrapped the following year. The third car, #8665, was the one whose rear air brake angle cock had been mostly closed by contact with the crossbar of the coupler housing above it and considered the cause of the run-away, as the brakes of the cars behind it didn't work. It was only partly in the station and was repaired and continued in service with the NH, then as PC/MBTA #2561. These cars were used until 1988 but I don't have any information on just when the former #8665 was retired and would love to know.

Anyone know the condition of Grill car #953? I am surprised it lasted in Conrail MOW service. Does the National NYC Museum have any plans for it? Would seem to be outside their mission.

I don't know... two of the six passenger cars I show for them are NYC, the others not... must not be much of an interest...

No one seems to have mentioned it, but the Sable Movie Ranch was largely destroyed two days ago by the Sand Fire. The news coverage I found did not show the passenger cars so I can not say whether or not they were damaged. I believe I had heard that two of the cars were an SP Daylight articulated coach.
