Thanks for the word on CPRail 1019.

Can I ask if CN 9177 survived?

I can't share the photo from there. but No. 9177 has very recently been reported in NS's Vardo Yard in Hagerstown, Md. Are there any ideas of where the unit may be headed?

We may have No. 9177's destination from the Facebook site, "Shenandoah Valley Railfans":

This photo showed up on Altoona Works (Facebook page), with the following caption.

Quote:
Saved for now.
The two remaining F7s at Cresson Steel, previously owned by NS for a time, have been sold to Virginia Rail Services. Word is one will be restored to operation while the other will be a parts source.

There was also this comment with it by Ben True:

Somewhat of a correction to the information posted. The Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad has NOT purchased these locomotives. Virginia Rail Services has. DGVR is working in cooperation with VRS to access these two locomotives and determine what future they have for operations.

Virginia Rail Services is the owner of a transload in Pleasant Valley Virginia. We have worked with them on several locomotive projects.

9177 and 407 are probably the worst condition of any that we have partnered with them on. I feel certain we can get one of them running. Which one? I am not going to declare that till we get into them.

9177 is supposed to arrive at VRS's yard in Pleasant Valley today.

Ben, It would be amazing to see the rust ball known as CN 9177 restored back to running order. CN 9168 still exist at NRE along with CPR 1018 a F7 B unit and sister to 1019 both of which used to be hump yard slugs. CN 9177 and CN 9168 are historically significant because they were the last two EMD F7 units to work on CN. 9177 did pull passenger trains for Via Rail in the early days a couple times. I'd like to see CN 9168 rescued from NRE and paired with 9177 someday.

I believe the unit you guys will have luck with getting operational again is most likely the CNW 407. CN 9177 as far as I am aware has no prime mover?

Robert,

It's REALLY hard to say which way we will go at the moment. 407 is a rustball. 9177 is a very nice hollow structure. We're attacking systematically and we will let our finding lead the way. We won't be selling tickets for their first train ride till after the tractive effort is applied to the rail.

Thanks for the information on the 9168 and 1018. I didn't know about either one of them.

No problem. Glad to share info when possible.

As per another post asking about available F7/F9 B units. NRE plans to scrap CPR 1018 as they claim it is in poor shape and unsuitable for resale. If anyone is interested maybe they could convince NRE to sell the CPR B unit for static display. I hope CN 9168 has a slightly better outlook but unlikely being at NRE. Maybe your organization should seriously consider CN 9168 before NRE cuts it up if there is any chance at all you guys might be in a position to acquire the former CN A unit?

Any updates on SOU 407? Was this unit scrapped?

Update: Never mind, I found photo proof it ended up in Virginia.
