ASR held another work session on Saturday, July 16 at the West 3rd St. roundhouse in Cleveland. The following volunteers were in attendance: ● Gordon Hartschuh ● Greg Brown ● Tiffany Saultz ● Eric Kapusta Work continued on final preparations for a preliminary hydro test. All but one of the last washout plug caps had lapping completed and caps were installed. There is one washout plug remaining on the bottom front of the boiler that requires some additional lapping to complete. We removed a high pressure steam plug from one of the relief valve ports to measure the plug for purchasing two more. The two remaining ports have adapters that will also likely need to be removed and have a hydro testing plug installed. Flange cover assemblies were fitted and made up for an air testing flange, water filling flange, and cover plate for the blowdown port. A dry pipe cover was installed to seal the boiler for the hydro test. The boiler check valves also need to be carefully inspected to see if they need lapping as well. Upcoming Work Session Tasks: The following tasks are planned for the upcoming work sessions in July including: ● Take exterior UT readings and record for analysis. ● Continue lapping the bottom front washout plug on boiler ● Install an air fill port assembly on the blow down flange ● Temporarily seal the steam dome cover for an air test ● Provide an air seal on the relief valve ports ● Complete an initial air test and fix all detected leaks ● Complete a hydrostatic test and fix all detected leaks ● Inventory container and aux. Tender storage ● Remove red 3M adhesive reflective material from side skirts ● Begin polishing of side rods Respectfully submitted on behalf of Gordon Hartschuh, Roundhouse Foreman Rob Gardner, Chief Engineer
