Greetings folks,

Just a small update on a huge event for the Golden Spike Chapter R&LHS which is restoring D&RGW 223, a narrow gauge C-16 class steam locomotive built by Grant Locomotive Works and currently residing at the Utah State Railroad Museum in Ogden, Utah. One of the major holdups on the project was the fact that despite all that has been done over the years, the wheels did not turn and the side rods could not be removed because of the position in which they were locked.

This past Saturday (August 20, 2016), John Braun from Mammoth Locomotive Works spent the day with the chapter and with his expertise the drive rods were pulled off and the wheels now turn. This is probably the biggest thing to happen in the restoration process apart from when the boiler was removed from the frame a few months ago.

For those not in the know about this project, the goal is to have the 223 under steam in time for the May 10, 2019 events that will occur in Ogden. There is still a lot to do, including a full analysis and either rebuilding or replacement of the boiler, which still needs funding, and if anybody would like to donate can do so through the 223 Gofundme account here: https://www.gofundme.com/D-RGW223 The best way to keep track of the restoration is through their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DRGWenginenumber223/ They also have a website http://www.trainweb.org/GoldenSpikeLRHS/
