Interesting news. So, what sort of steam heat system will be installed inside the car?

The boxcar will be fitted with a low pressure steam boiler. We tested it in December and it works great.

Hi all,

Sorry for the lack of pictures. I will get some when I get a moment. Life is keeping me extra busy.

1 year has passed since M-53 381357 was pulled from the OOS "1 track". What started as a rotting boxcar under a tree, sinking in the mud, has turned into a huge restoration and preservation project. Steve Jensen and Ryan Fisher of the WWRC started doing heavy welding repairs on the south side of the car. The sagging floor on the east end was torn up and broken boards were replaced. A section of the floor was completely removed to allow for welding repairs to both the frame braces running to the inside of the skirt, and the skirt and stirrup itself. Draft gear work was also done while the additional access was there.

The debris between the wooden interior and the steel walls were cleaned out and resealed. This was done to prevent moisture from collecting a rotting the metal from the inside-out.

More paint work will be done in the coming months.

Thanks to Tom, Al, Ryan, Tex, Bob, C.J., Jerry, and everyone else I may have forgot for all of your time and effort.

Thanks to Steve and Ryan for their assistance welding 80 year old metal.

Hello all,

WWRC 1872/B&O 381357 was placed back into service in November 2018. She wears a blue coat and will be stenciled this winter. She is seen here on her first revenue run up the railroad.

4 1/4 years of work, finally finished. There will be no new updates on this car by me.

Chris - If you won't post an update when the car is finally lettered, hopefully someone else will do so.
