Thanks. I wasn't aware that anyone was still making tile to the original pattern. I will admit, these make a long life roof, almost as long as slate or copper. Speaking of copper, are they installing the tiles with copper nails? |

I think they are using stainless steel nails, as being less subject to deterioration and resultant loss of tiles. |

Yeah, that should work. I recall the traditional was solid copper, which I didn't think were made anymore, but stainless must be the modern substitute, and likely actually better than original. |

Work is progressing on tiling the central tower, which is nearly complete. The four turrets at the corners will be completed in 2017 as required materials arrive, and a round window will be installed in the dormers (track side and bluff side) where a clock was planned in 1891 but never installed. The copper finials are in place at the peak of the apex, and a good deal of the scaffolding has been taken down.

These views of the Keokuk Union Depot were taken in December 2017 by Neal Vogel, principal of Restoric LLC (the architectural firm overseeing the restoration of the Depot's tile roof). They show completion of the roof on the downriver end of the building. On the upriver end (over the waiting room) two hips remain to be tiled. Completion of this project depends on delivery of the special tiles for the corners. It is expected that the work will be finished in the spring of 2018.
