Actually, in the list provided by the NSDash9.com site, it also indicates NS 5044 (ex SOU (CG) 5044 going to Tennessee Valley Railway, but for Calhoun TN. Same? Len |

Yes both engines were acquired by TVRM. |

Doesn't TVRM have some "freight" business on the side? If so, those units could be a perfect fit. |

The SD40 arrived back in May and was put to work switching VW and ADM on our TVRM contract switching railroad. This was the first opportunity to formally accept the donation. The GP38s will be split between our various operations. One will be painted Southern, the other probably TVRM. |

Hi, It has been many years since I was last at TVRM so my info may not be completely corret. As I recall, the line through Missionary Ridge had one or two business just outside the East Chattanooga fence. A switching line also used as access to the Chattanooga Station has an interchange with the outside world and occasional freight movements were handled on it. As for the L&N hook & Eye in Tennessee, I do not know if there was any freight business before the TVRM took over. That part of the old L&N line into Atlanta and the Marietta & North Georgia south from the state line for 10-29 miles had trees growing through the track for a long time. The Georgia Northeastern shortline runs the Georgia side of the line and the TVRM runs the TN side. I seem to recall there were a couple of possible business near the north end of the TVRM track. Most of the freight traffic on the GNE is from Tate south. There is a marble quarry there and there is a lot of industrial spurs down near the CSX interchange at Elizabethtown (north Marietta, GA). From the TVRM Facebook page Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum announces the arrival of the newest member of their historic locomotive collection, former Southern Railway, and later Norfolk Southern locomotive 5000. Locomotive 5000 is a GP38-2 built by the Electo Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors in January 1972 it was the first of 257 of the model purchased by the Southern. The GP38/GP38-2 was the fourth largest model produced by EMD and was the leader of the four axle second generation diesel locomotive family. At 44 years old this is one of our “youngest” engines and is the third "class" locomotive in the TVRM collection including SD40 3170 and Ms-1 2-8-2 steam locomotive 4501. Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum traded the recently acquired Diesel engine 5033 for locomotive 5000. Norfolk Southern locomotive 5000 will be restored to its original Southern Railway paint scheme. |
