For those of you not familiar with the Shelburne Falls (MA) Trolley Museum, it centers around preserving and operating trolley car number 10, a combine car built in 1896 for the Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway. We have 0.4 miles of track under wire and another half mile of yard trackage. Besides No. 10, we have a handcar and a Central Vermont caboose that we sometimes give rides in via Trackmobile®. Despite our small size and rural location we have enjoyed success and have accomplished many things. This year alone saw completion of our new two stall steel Car Barn with electrification of the track to the Car Barn, track installation to the Car Barn and installation of two new turnouts for the second stall. Another thing we managed to accomplish is to repair the roof and siding and paint all the siding on our 1867 Troy and Greenfield/Fitchburg Railroad/Boston and Maine Freight House (which also served the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad) and repair the Freight House dock. We have closed for the season except for one more run the day after Thanksgiving when the whole village does a "Moonlight Magic" event. There are still things going on at the SFTM however, like the hump signal I am rebuilding and a rebuilding of a coal stove for our caboose. We also may want to look at having a disclaimer sign to warn parents that kids may not want to leave willingly. Hope to see some of you at Moonlight Magic or next season.
