Does anyone have any updates or new photos of 624 being prepped for the move? I haven't been able to get there to see for myself. Thanks!

We have a pretty extensive article in our most recent members newsletter. Once the 765 comes home from Chicago, we'll turn our attention to 624 and some of our other projects. I would guess 624 gets moved by August.

That's an interesting picture! Good luck on the rest of the project.

looks like the mike has a "thru the firebox back" stoker system. Something applied to the N&W M2c 4-8-0's.

I'm still bonked 965 got scrapped

http://www.railarchive.net/randomsteam/nkp965.htm

the NKP historical society published "Surprise heres 965!" as it was still sitting in the scrap yard, then later they reported it was scrapped. well duh.

I hope this is in a very secure location, as I can see that to an knowledgeable party with few scruples, this could look like abandoned machinery with lots of "free" scrap metal on it.

No more or less secure than it has been since 1955...

The photo is reminiscent of Maine Central 470 being disassembled prior to being moved for restoration. The Fort Wayne people have shown their skills and abilities several times over. I see no reason to doubt them now. The big "Mike" has a future, and that beat heck out of sitting as "200 tons of junk*".

Kelly, Except that now it looks "worse" and to the untrained eye appears to be being scrapped. We know better! And I have full faith in your group's ability to do the job--I'm just worried that some of our, uh, more creative citizens might jump inside the fence and "liberate" some "scrap metal" for their financial needs. "Keep out" signs might help, I dunno, I just worry that right now it's more exposed than ever. Remember what happened to the 2926 folks!
(Big mean dogs or an electric fence charger come to mind too. . . ) :)

Remember it's not that far from where the bridge was stolen!

Although nothing from the FtWRHS, I heard today that the South Shore caboose was sighted at another location. Since I'm not sure this is for publication yet, I'll not mention where this location is. However, it's good to know that the rare South Shore caboose HAS apparently been saved.

Is it still too soon to reveal where the caboose got moved to?

And, if the Indiana Transportation Museum goes under (highly unlikely), would the FWRHS be interested in obtaining the #587?

The caboose is now at the Gramling Locomotive Works LLC in Ashley, Indiana.

When they're not off running commuter trains for Metra (LOL) they have been keeping busy!
