Those interested in steam locomotive overhaul might care to join the Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/667566803390024/ where a major revival of steam locomotives is documented in addition to images showing their use.

They are working on their 3rd 19th class 4-8-2 and have also completed a 24th class - in the past two years.

Recent activity includes the replacement of 286 flexible stay bolts in 19D 3322 - in less than 8 weeks.....

They have several more locomotives to complete.

Trevor, this is the same group that pulled the Red Devil in for restoration about this time a year ago, correct?

Yes one of the three operations Voorbaai is working for is Ceres Railway Company who are the company who leased 3450 from the THF.

Ceres decided to wait to start the restoration of 3450 until they received their main line operating permit from Spoornet. Which was granted in August. They now operate regularly from Cape Town to Ceres.

3450 is too heavy to be moved to Voorbaai for overhaul. Ceres have not said where it will be overhauled.

Voorbaai is also working for the new operator of the Knysna branch - Classic Rail, who I believe have asked for 6 locomotives.

They also have a contract to re-boiler a 24 class for Atlantic Rail in 2017 and have overhauled a 24 for a private owner.
