The North Shore Railroad in Northumberland had an ex-Conrail, ex-CNJ SW-7 for a time, but I believe it has been sold. At one point, it was assigned to the Stourbridge line in Honesdale.

All SD40s save for the one that went into the drink on the EL have survived to present day.

North Shore 430, originally built as CNJ 1081 in May 1950, c/n 11630. Sold to ADMX and shipped out Dec. 2010. Last seen rolling thru Michigan on a CSX freight at the very end of 2010. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether it still exists.

CNJ 3061 - FURX 3039 has the added distinction of being the first SD40 delivered to America's first railroad.

Note all 9 CNJ SD40s were Ex-B&O SD40s from the 1st order, 7482-7490. I wonder if the B&O museum would ever bother with one, if not anyone else, and repaint it to CNJ. The B&O had an interest in the CNJ up until right before Conrail after all.

Funny quirk about it that I've read before, when the B&O let the CNJ slide into bankruptcy, one of CNJ's first independent moves was to create the "Coast Guard" scheme. Some B&O management types rolled into Elizabethport and raised an issue about repainting locomotives without permission. CNJ informed the B&O that they had no say anymore, the locomotives were theirs, and that the CNJ was free to their own desires (Until April 1st, 1976, that is).

Two "Holy Grail" lists for me:

First is the immaculate collection of #1300 series coaches assembled by the GMRC/Vermont Railway, they are something to see.

The second is the complete (yes complete) Blie Comet train set left scattered about.

All three observation cars remain relatively secure.
Coaches Westphal and D'Arrest survive but need a savior.
Combine Halley is in Santa Fe, NM
Combine Encke supposedly survived into the 1990's but I can't pin down what happened to her.

How is this a complete train, with no diner? The off-season Blue Comet (and other scheduled runs) ran without the diner (some substituted a RDG buffet car, I believe).

And, of course, CNJ #592 was a pinch-hitter on TBC.

Thus, someone with gumption (and/or big bucks) could put together a pretty neat off-season TBC. If only....

CNJ GP-7 No. 1521 later became Conrail 5677 before going to the Museum of Transport in St. Louis. It was set up with two control stands, one facing forwards, the other backwards for commuter service, I believe.

It was gutted in late 2015, the parts harvested by other museums. The loco was too far gone and slated for scrapping, but the deed has yet to be done as of Jan. 2017. Waiting for the scrap prices to go up, I suppose.

I find it interesting that an "Out-of-Service" card I have for this locomotive (Dated April 30, 1976) was made on an old CNJ Quarterly boiler report card!

SD40 3063 (B&O 7484), then CR 6287, is slated to be converted by NS from their 3445 to an SD33ECO.

Truly a "nine lives" loco.
