What happened? RyPN was running near the limit of its resources. Whenever the website approached that limit the server began queuing up requests for pages and images. This queue would grow extremely long as it did not have the resources to process all the requests in real time, causing everything to slow down and drag.

The solution was to bump up some of the resources available to RyPN, taking from some of the other websites that are hosted on the same server. This was accomplished around 2PM. As a result if our traffic levels continue to increase then we will probably have to consider upgrading to a bigger server with better resources.

So basically, while others are saying (in a different thread) that RYPN is dying, it is actually getting more traffic than ever and may need a server upgrade.
Very interesting and ironic.

It's only ironic if it's traffic from people who want to use the forum. If it's a DDOS attack, massive search engine spidering (that can look a lot like a DDOS attack even if it's not). Google and others tend to be considerate, others like Yandex or Slup tend to hit servers hard. It could also be hackers probing the whole site in an attempt to find a way in, then it's not so good. Only the log files know for sure.

Traffic comes in many forms. Not all of them are good.

Point taken. I assumed that the site admin had already ruled those causes out.
(But it's still kind of funny.)
