There are some pieces of railroad equipment in Lamy, NM, one of which is this wood bodied refrigerator car sitting up on a bulkhead flat car which I photographed from Amtrak train # 3 earlier this month. This appears to me to be a narrow gauge car, but I may be wrong. There is a building near the Lamy depot labeled "Lamy Railroad and History Museum", which might own the car, although perhaps not. Anyone have any idea as to the cars heritage? Thanks!

Les

Hi,

That looks to me to be a D&RGW long refer. It seems to have some plaster board (sheet rock) paper on it.

I seem to recall hearing about a recovered refer that had been inside a structure but I can not seem to find the reference.

If it is an ex-D&RGW refer, it may have been in the area since the 1941 abandonment of the Chili Line.

The car is an ancient AT&SF reefer. It came out of a building in Santa Fe alongside the AT&SF depot.

As I recall, the car has repack and weght stencils from Kansas City in the 1930's. I will try to dig up my photos of the car.

Here are a couple of shots of the other side of the car from November of 2012;

In 2012 there was another similar car sitting on the ground west of the depot. Both had come from the same building in Santa Fe.

First photo is of the second car, next two are of the car on the de-trucked flatcar.

Jason -

Thanks very much for the photos, including the second refrigerator car. The repack info showing KC 7-32 is interesting. Also, the Santa Fe herald can still be seen on the side of the car that's not visible from the passing Amtrak trains. I wonder if this series of cars had the "billboard" slogans that advertised the various Santa Fe passenger trains?

Hi,

Great photos. I did not notice the flat car is also without trucks at first.
