Seems that a cretin or cretins unknown decided to break the east side windows out of the IC office car, IC RPO, and IC caboose in the display at the McComb depot. Once inside, they attacked anything and everything that had glass (windows, mirrors, light fixtures, cabinets, etc) in it, and did much damage to walls, cabinets, furniture, fixtures, and floors. Not known yet what damage, if any, was done to the IC 2542 (4-8-2) or other equipment in the display.

This is why it is so difficult to have nice things and share them with the public. This was a well-cared-for display.

I have planned to stop by there next month while on a trip. Sorry to hear of this.
Any more information appreciated.

This is a disgusting look at today's lack of care for other people's property. If they're caught, there will be no consequences and they will go on with their lives getting even more disgusting.

Police reports from McComb later Tuesday day indicate 3 "people" have been arrested, 1 18-year old and 2 16-year olds.

Since the first report, more damage has been discovered. The business car interior was trashed by pulling up and tearing carpets, slashing seats, pulling drawers out and bashing them into kindling, and destroying some original furnishings.

The RPO, the interior of which had been refurbished and reequipped as it would have been in service, was similarly hit by slashing mail bags and pouches, tearing doors off of the package sorting bins, pounding out all the letter sorting slots, etc.

Car exteriors were also grafittied.

I am absolutely shocked at what I am hearing has occurred. In every way possible this vandalism is beyond tragic!

The real way to make them learn their lesson should be to find a way to make them restore everything they have broken (with supervision of course!), not jail time.

Agreed, that'd be a good start and good lesson to their peers.

And once the repairs or replacements have been made by the individuals, they need to make a public apology before the city council.

The parents SHOULD be made to pay complete restitution.

The criminals-yes, they are- should also have to face an assembly at the school to apologize for their actions.
