For museum or shortlines with "Engineer for an Hour" programs, I just wanted to mention that this company makes a small folding auxiliary seat for a locomotive cab that is spring loaded to store against the wall or the electrical cabinet when not in use:

Unfortunately the auxiliary seat was never listed in their website presentation on locomotive seats, you have to call them and ask about the product.

This type of seat is designed for attachment to the cab wall or a door of the electrical cabinet. Many transit agencies use the electrical cabinet door mounting for this type of seat, with reinforcing bars installed on the inside of the cabinet door.
