Recently, the Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum decided that the track work that would lead into the back end of our Shop building, had to be changed. This past Saturday, the museum did just that, and I thought I'd post a few photos here. The first photo shows the track as it had been in place and the second shot is after it had been moved into its approximate new location. Still need to do some tweaking!

Here are a couple of photo's of the work involved in getting the track moved.

Would be interested in seeing other examples of changes that museums have had to make in their carefully thought out plans.

Thanks so much Les.

In the first photo, the Porter 0-4-2T would have been down a ways on the left? Just want to get my bearings right here.

Tom -

In the first photo, you can see our depot building off in the distance, with a string of cars just to the left. 0-4-2T #6 was located in the area of that string of cars, when you were here at the museum. We then moved the Porter down to the track where the green NKP baggage car is now located (you can just see it behind the leafless tree) for the loading onto the truck. Hope that straightens it out for you.

Taking note of the head blocks in the second photo, I presume the plan is to build a turnout to reach the back door of the shop. Always nice to have access from both ends of the building.

G.W.L. -

Yes, that is the plan. We are keeping our fingers crossed for the possible donation of a turnout that, if it comes through, we would eventually add to this track.

As for the access from both ends of the building, well, more of a necessity. We put the original donated building up as our Shop with two tracks running inside. When we put our first addition on, we just added it onto the front, keeping those two tracks and thus lengthening the Shop. When the most recent building was added, we couldn't just put it on the rear as that would have infringed on the right of way of the trains we run (line to the right) so we had to offset that addition. One track now goes through the first (east) addition, then through the original donated building and into the back (west) addition. If you look in the first photos in this thread, you can probably see how the West addition had to be offset.

Thanks for your comments.

Do you know the history of the two boxcars that make up
the barn behind the dump truck.
That barn fascinated me when I was young.
My brother and I would play around it back then.

Thank you also Larry...looks still to be visible in that image, facing toward the museum.

Steve -

The two cars that make up that building are 36' long wood ice bunker refrigerator cars; CRLX #5369 and CRLX #7520, both Cudahy Refrigerator Lines. The sides of the cars on the inside are still fairly decent, but as you can tell, the outsides are shot. The farmer who originally owned the building had a big John Deere combine between the cars on the interior and eventually donated the building and surrounding property to HVRM. He never did any maintenance on it, and the museum hasn't been much better, although we did put a new roof on it a few years ago. Now we need to do something to the exterior or will lose the whole building. But funds are tight these days. Hopefully we'll figure something out.

Appreciate your note. Glad you and your brother enjoyed it back then!
