This Wednesday (4/5/17), NS is looking to deliver up to six loads to our interchange. Since NS has been doing better at delivering in the morning, since #90 will be steamed up for passenger trains that day (and #8618 will be in the shop for two new power assemblies), we are planning to run a mixed train that morning at 8:00 am.

The fare will be $15 cash to the conductor at the time of boarding. Exact change is appreciated.

Full disclosure:
If NS hasn’t delivered by 8:45 am or so, the mixed will be annulled due to #90’s being needed for passenger service starting at 10:30 am.

If NS doesn't deliver at all on Wednesday, the train may run on Friday instead.

Updates will be posted as they come in.

Don't expect the cars (or the hills in the background) to look like these...

We are still planning to run this train tomorrow, modified to an 8:30 am departure.

Man, that is the real deal, it just screams legitimacy, pretty much nowhere else in the English speaking world can you ride a train doing real freight work pulled by steam.

PMC in Oregon.

Yes it did - two empties went out, and five loads came back (four hoppers and a gondola) - with one coach each way.

Many thanks to the two paying passengers, and especially to the one (believe it of not) paying chaser. When I heard about that, I told the conductor to be careful driving home that he didn't hit a big foot while watching the UFO hovering over his car. Who knows, maybe you will start a trend.

I was going to ask, after just watching a video via another site, of the trip, how many people rode versus chased? I'm glad to hear a chaser paid....And I'm pretty sure he is the one whose video I just watched.

Curiosity....What's in the gon?

Had I chased this, I'd certainly have been happy to buy a ticket, and anyone who didn't should be ashamed. $15? You can blow that for Starbucks and a burger. Quite reasonable and well worth supporting.

I was one of the two passengers.
My humble video from the other site.
Gives a peak of the gon contents.
And see 90 slip shoving the load in a reverse movement.

How many chased, I heard "A lot" but I'll have to see if I can get a better estimation.

The gon is loaded with steel bar stock for a local supplier.

Good videos, both. I understand that Big Jim was the paying chaser, good karma to you Jim.

Sorry to hear you only got three paying fares for the mixed. I had a business meeting that day or I would have done it.

Kelly, please keep up your postings about future mixed trains - I think a lot of us want to ride but have to have the right day to do it.

I echo diningcartim's post. I am interested in riding a steam powered mixed sometime this year; I'm off on Wednesdays in my current job but am 2 1/2 hours away, so it's a matter of very challenging logistics (getting a son to daycare and other things). Hopefully I'll get there sometime this summer when one is running. Yesterday's train looked like a trip back in time. Awesome.

Thanks Kelly for the gon info.

You guys move a good mix of commodities. Kudos to your freight marketing department for doing what so many other shortlines fail to do....drum up new business.

And props to BigJim.
