Any suggestions for what to use to grease/lubricate a Gatke centre plate (and associated steel shims) on a lightweight passenger car with GSC outside swing hanger trucks?
Thanks!

Any good graphite or moly grease will work well. Fifth-wheel lubricant (used for semi-trailers) is good, we also use track/curve grease, which contains moly or graphite.

There's this: http://www.rrtoolsnsolutions.com/lubric ... beDisc.asp
As well as smaller graphite wafers that are available.

At the Topeka Shops in the 70's, if we raised a car and the bowl looked dry, we'd just give it a shot of car journal oil, and call it good. Later when they started getting the graphite cookies or wafers, four or five of those were thrown in. But with the wafers, you had to have the side bearing clearance adjusted before you put them in, because they would hold the car up just a little until they smeared in after a few curves. But this was with freight cars, not passenger.

The cookies are great, if available. Good grease is cheaper though.
