Thought I'd seen a lot of railroad artifacts... but never seen one of these. It may NOT be railroad related.. maybe that's why I don't know what it is ;) .
Anyhow, just thought I'd put it up and see if anyone knows for sure. One way or the other, I'll report back with the verdict to the group.

A lady has her dads MK&T railroad (if that makes any difference) memorabilia and was showing us... we can't figure out what the larger "T" handled key would fit.

As of right now, not sure what his position was with the railroad (besides trainman of some sort) or how old he was when he retired... but he has UTU paraphernalia along with all this stuff... so he worked up at least until 1969, when they were formed.

At first, I thought "pullman berth key".... wrong. That was my only guess.

It's pretty good sized... the business end is about the length of a switch key, so it's gotta fit something rather large...

Some sort of key for train dispatch....? Similar to what is used in the British key and token system? Thats my guess

This is similar in size and exact shape that fits the cover on my water meter box. Maybe a similar ground box with a lid?

Harry, I think you're right.
The business end does look a bit different than the ones google showed, but they're sure similar...

I'll throw an idea out, or 2.

Why would a railroad worker need this key on a daily basis? If the MKT has any street trackage there might be under street turnout machines and would use locks using that key.
Like any the interurbans using any paint at a hardware store you use any available lock and key and not custom make it.

So it may not be a base railroad design but gets a railroad use.
