Does anyone have access to any ORERs from 1897 and 1898? I'm specifically looking for the months October through December 1897 and January through April 1898. I would like to get the caboose numbers for Lehigh Valley 4 wheel bobbers prior to transition to the 96000 numbering series.

What is an ORER? Something to do with the Oregon Electric Ry?

Official Railway Equipment Register. A publication listing all the details of the national freight car fleet. There was a parallel publication for passenger cars.

Was published monthly at one time. I think it's quarterly now, or at least it was the last time I saw one, about 2006.

The parallel passenger publication started post-WWII. Prior to that many railroads included their passenger cars in the ORER.

I have used the extensive collection at the California State Railroad Museum library. I believe it may have originated from the publisher. From its website:
Quote:
The Official Railway Equipment Register published monthly beginning in 1885 and quarterly since 1937, lists in tabular form details of car ownership, marking and numbers, and dimensions and capacity for North American railroads.

October 1897 is up on Google Books (actually, 148 volumes between 1890 and 1917 are, but there are gaps).

8-wheel caboose cars:
701-718, 737-749, 95030 (32 cars total)
4-wheel caboose cars:
722-736, 750-1000, 1005-1043 (305 cars total)
