41307 Dearing Railroad

Just over 25 minutes ago, as seen from the webcam, a northbound manifest on CSX's ex-RF&P line passed through Ashland, VA, with #41307 near the end of the train (53rd out of 54 total cars). The power was #3215 and #455. No clue on the train symbol, or where it's headed.

EDIT: I just noticed this is the car that apparently had/has gone missing; I was wondering why it was headed north, as I think this car should be headed towards Georgia, not away from the Peach State! (Is the owner still trying to track it down, or does he know what train it's currently part of?)

This is Q416-07, Rocky Mount, NC to Willard, Ohio. Train was last at New Castle, PA.

Way back when the WP805A was being shipped out to Portola from "back east" and some train crew didn't read their manifest, just assumed the "wrecked" loco was going to a scrap dealer on their route, so that's where they dropped it off. Fortunately the scrapper didn't grab it and start cutting, AND a "foamer" spotted it there, knew what it was and contacted the museum, who immediately went to work to get it out of there and back on its way to preservation.
So lost stuff ain't anything new, nor limited to CSX

I was watching the Ashland webcam again, and another 2 Ringling cars came through in the consist of a northbound manifest about 25 minutes ago, RBBX #42017 and #40007, as cars 52 and 53 (54 cars total). Power was #3421, #4048, and #249. Seems these 2 are going in the right direction, at least currently.

The Big South Fork Scenic RR has just posted on its Facebook page a notice that the ten or so cars coming to Crossroads Railcar Services will be arriving on their line via NS, and that the public is asked to stay away or risk arrest:

I spotted the two sleepers in Scranton this morning, they are in the area of the former DL&W passenger station as you enter the downtown. Was going by too fast to get a pic.

Yes they received them, delivered by Delaware-Lackawanna (by four Alcos no less!). A video is posted on their facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ELDCPS/posts/1306193686116764

RBBX 40007 and RBBX 42017 are headed to New Castle on CSX where they will be interchanged to the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad for movement to DuBois PA. Once in DuBois, both cars will be taken off rail for display at the Doolittle Station Museum complex where they will eventually be utilized in public overnight usage. You can still pretend to run away with the Circus!

I heard through the local vine that one of the cars out of the 10 stored at the Nash County RR in NC for NCDOT derailed while being moved onto a spur. Very slow speed and they were able to get it back up the same day.

No. 41307 is now in Huntington, W.Va.

As to the "Dearing Railroad:"
Quote:
So who now owns RBBX 41307?

"We bought it in May for $15,000, which is dirt cheap," said Borden Black McGahee, of Columbus, Georgia, who, with her husband, Nelson, and partners Charles and Kathy Pults from Georgia and Dave and Jean Reppy from Pennsylvania, closed the deal.

The McGahees also own the private car "Dearing," which is named for a little town in Georgia, and both cars will be stored in the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society's South Yard.

They bought the private car - which includes a galley, dining room, three bedrooms, a rear-facing lounge and an open rear platform - 10 years ago. Ever since they made the car Amtrak-worthy four years ago, it has been on the rear end of the society's four annual New River Train excursions to Hinton, West Virginia. The Pullman Company built it in 1925 as 12-section/drawing roon sleeper "Thompson."

Ah. Okay. That explains why it was headed north. (I should have checked on where the Dearing was based before concluding that their new acquisition was headed in the wrong direction. Oops.)

Oh, and the article didn't mention it, but their business car, the Dearing, originally the Thompson, was built in 1925 for the then-new Empire Builder.

Thanks, J3a!
