We installed the drivers the old fashioned way, with jacks and cribbing. It took two days to carefully jack up the frame, roll the drivers underneath then lower it back down. Everything went fine with no hiccups.

Without the heavy plate rear platform the locomotive is just a tad front heavy. That new platform will be next on the agenda to install. The center of gravity is exactly over the front axle. I can pick up the rear of the locomotive with one hand.

We got the right side rod put on before calling it a day.

That thing looks fantastic. Any more detail and it would look more like a model!

Three of us rolled the 58 in and out of the enginehouse by hand with the side rods on. That is 30,000 lb. of locomotive being moved by three people. Did fine on flat track but the tiniest grade and its too much to push.

The benefit of roller bearings......

Yah, but I do not think that the #58 has roller bearings.

Comments? Am I correct?

It sure does. Big Timken tapered rollers with 8" ID. The boxes were disassembled, bearings removed, cleaned and reinstalled. When we got the locomotive the wheels were locked up tight. That was caused by the seals being rusted, not the bearings.
