I have seen the posts on the different colors of the CHICAGO GREAT WESTERN tank cars. I don't believe it was ever what color of tank car carried which commodity. I have a collection of N-scale car in the colors of orange, green, black and silver. So, I am particularly interested in these cars. TRAINTUNESTOM |

I seem to recall that one of these CGW tank cars was preserved, but can't find the original post. I'll do a bit more digging. Les Addendum - CGW #285, a maroon (red) painted 1957 built car is at the Boone & Scenic Valley. |

There is a brown CGW tank car outside the UP training center in West Chicago, IL I believe its number 256. It was sitting at Morgan Street about to be cut up when it was decided to move it to the training center. |

A brown car is probably one of the maroon diesel cars that faded. Here is one of the lube oil cars, in Oelwein in 1993 (photo credit Conrad Baker):
