Today marked official end of two major restorations at the St. Louis Museum of Transport.

A dedication ceremony was held this morning for the restored NYC 2933 and Wabash 573. Members of several supporting groups, including the New York Central Historical Society, Wabash Historical Society, St. Louis Chapter of the NRHS, and officials of the Museum of Transport were present to say some words. The end of these projects are an indescribable milestone and show the true progress MOT has made in the past few years.

The restoration of the Wabash 573 was started in 2011,. It was the last operating Wabash steamer, and has really come a long way.

As you can see, the change is stunning.

Van McCullough was the last fireman on the locomotive, unfortunately he passed a couple of months before the restoration was completed, but willed that his scoop be reunited with the locomotive it fired. For the first time in 60 years, they were both together.

I was not directly involved with this project, but want to give the most admiriable praise to the volunteers who saw this through and those whose donations made this possible.

Photos of the NYC 2933 to come later this evening.
