I'd like to personally thank Rick Rowlands for rescuing a huge treasure trove of P&WV and predecessor drawings going back to 1902 and donating them to the P&WV Technical and Historical Interest Group. We started packing and hauling them from Youngstown back to Pittsburgh today. A quick sampling showed that the collection contains a bit of everything from parcel maps of proposed property purchases for right of way to major structures and facilities. This donation is a great addition to the documents already in hand and will be quite the long-term task to sort, catalog and digitize it all.

I didn't get to meet Rick today as he was called away on another project but I did want to publicly acknowledge his donation.

And yes, it's yet another example that RYPN still works or this probably wouldn't have happened.

Congratulations on your new acquisition! May it bring researchers to your group to discover all you have to offer. Let me know where I can go to follow the progress on your cataloging of the collection or find a way to help.

Thank you for stepping up to preserve the collection---it's truly appreciated.

Glad to be of service. The collection had been stored in a baggage car at the Mad River & Nickel Plate Railroad Museum in Bellevue, OH for years. They needed to clean out that car last year and I was contacted about acquiring them. So I went out with the hi-rail truck and a Uhaul trailer, loaded them up and brought them back here. Then I made contact with the P&WV group culminating with them taking custody of the documents.

I was not able to be there this weekend because I was in Strasburg picking up another piece from the RRMPA to bring to Youngstown for restoration.

Here's the link to the P&WV Technical & Historical Interest Group website: http://thepwvhiline.com/index.htm. Most of the action occurs on the BB. As the drawings get sorted, they'll scan some of the more interesting bits and post samples. The long-term goal is to get the entire collection digitized (a daunting task). They have the equipment and software but it takes a lot of manhours to scan and archive properly so building the catalog is and will be a long, slow process.
