In 1973 as part of their 150th anniversary, the D&H borrowed Reading T-1 #2102 and modified it in appearance to represent long-gone D&H 4-8-4 #302. This included adding "elephant ear" smoke lifters and a recessed headlight in the smokebox door. I've always been curious about whether a new smokebox door was fabricated for this purpose, or if the original was modified somehow and then returned to original configuration. Does anyone have any insight about this? |

"High Iron Howie" Pincus indirectly answered this eight posts into an earlier thread several years ago--they fabricated a new door: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34425 |

Thanks, I've read that post before but didn't see the (implied) answer until you pointed out where it was. |
