Post subject:  "D&H 302"

In 1973 as part of their 150th anniversary, the D&H borrowed Reading T-1 #2102 and modified it in appearance to represent long-gone D&H 4-8-4 #302. This included adding "elephant ear" smoke lifters and a recessed headlight in the smokebox door. I've always been curious about whether a new smokebox door was fabricated for this purpose, or if the original was modified somehow and then returned to original configuration. Does anyone have any insight about this?

"High Iron Howie" Pincus indirectly answered this eight posts into an earlier thread several years ago--they fabricated a new door:
