American and Ohio has just been sold to crane rebuilder IPS Cranes of Duluth, MN. The Bucyrus, Ohio shop has been sold and all cranes, parts and records are now being shipped to Duluth. After 107 years there will be no more locomotive cranes from Bucyrus.

You're killing me. What's sad is the LACK of interest from the railfan community concerning wrecking cranes and locomotive cranes. Scrap a locomotive and it's a terrible crime, but scrap a crane and it's just another hunk of steel. Reminds me of the same lack of interest for railroad signals. We're missing the boat here.

Cranes seem to be the bastard step child of railfans. Everybody finds a 250 ton wrecker of interest but not interesting. The number of preserved cranes scrapped over the last ten years shows the turth of this.
