Maybe someone familiar with GSMR operations can provide some clarification to a question. I realize that GSMR recently, began using their newly installed turntable at Bryson City, NC. But in looking over the line I don't see another turning facility (turntable/wye) on the railroad with the exception of maybe another turntable bridge in the weeds west of Bryson City. I am guessing that if only one way to turn an engine it's to equalize flange wear on the steamer or entertainment value for passengers? Are there plans for another turning facility at say, Dillsboro? Just curious. Thanks, in advance. exprail |

At one time there was and the turntable in the weeds is the second one. It hasn't been mentioned in a long time so who knows at this point. |

Thanks, for the information, Ron. Maybe they can talk the town of Dillsboro or the state into building the other one there someday? exprail |

My wife and I are headed to that area in three weeks. I hope we can ride the GSMRR and find out. My daughter is a senior at WCU; not much time left to ride. I would love to see 1702 in steam. I saw her in 1985 at Reader, AR, before she left the Reader RR. |
