Hoosier Valley's Mark Knebel has begun the painting of Pennsylvania Railroad 50' single door box car # 607627.

Looks good! It's amazing just how long a 50-foot boxcar can be when it comes time to prep and paint one.

Very good! I assume it will look like the one below when done.

PS.
Down by the Illinois-Kentucky border in Shawneetown, IL there are a couple old boxcars on display similar to the one at HVRM. They could probably use a friend.

Photos are from 2011. I wonder if PC 207139 and P&LE 5658 are even still there?

Mr. Beckman -

The cars are visible on Google satellite imagery, which has a date of 2017.

They are displayed on a short piece of track. Hopefully the city fathers find the means to restore and preserve them.

Ooooooh, that is one of the "Serves the Steel Centers" boxcars! That would be perfect here in Youngstown with our collection of steel mill railroad equipment!

We are facing a repaint of a 50 ft. P&LE boxcar that is already at the museum. I'm not looking forward to it at all! That is a lot of surface to cover.

I suppose the Penn Central requires representation, after all, it was a neat shade of green. I would always prefer to see Pennsy and a keystone, but that's my prejudice.
Hey, it's getting painted, and that's good.

I sure hope it is color shift in the reproduction of the image that makes it look like NYC jade green, which is NOT the same color as the Penn Central used.

I also notice some PC green that looks like the NYC green:

This restored PC hopper has a green that looks close to HVRM's green.

I dunno.

Anyhoo...

This is not related to the car in question, but since the use of acronyms and the identification of organizations has been discussed several times before, could future posts regarding the Hoosier Valley spell out the full name in the thread title? I know of at least one other preservation organization that uses the initials HVRR (Heber Valley) and it can get confusing when scrolling through the RYPN page.

Josh -

Good point. There's also the Hocking Valley in Ohio! Putting the organization's name in the title of the thread makes good sense.
