It's in Chesterton, IN. I guess it was a restaurant, then (per a post here) an antique shop. I guess that would make these cars endangered. A web site says they are 17, 26, 100, and 104.

(What looks like an old freight house nearby has two cabooses and a NYC-painted boxcar. I believe that's NS in the foreground.)

PS: Did the South Shore use Waukesha Ice Engine A/C on all their cars? I was a little surprised to see that on an electric MU car.

A little historical note, during WW2 the CSS&SB painted the 100 in red, white, and blue with "Buy War Bonds" on the sides

The "old freight house" mentioned that is nearby is "Riley's Railhouse"; a Bed & Breakfast made from the 1914 New York Central freight house.

Yes, the SS used Waukesha propane powered engines on all their AC-equipped cars. The 2 diners at the East Troy RR (24 & 25) had theirs removed and replaced by 600V electric motors to run the AC units.

My family and I just were there Sunday July 30th. The freight house is the site of the Chesterton Railcam.

At times, my youngest is hooked on watching that railcam and wanted to visit the site while we drove between NJ and a family visit in Chicago.

I too noticed the property for sale. On a Sunday at noon time most of the businesses were closed in the downtown. Chesterton is a very nice little town but it appears most of the business activity in that area had moved to the standard box stores on the highway about a mile away.

Not sure what type of adaptive reuse could be done with this property.
